TILTEX system stabilizes the excavation, which is then filled with gravel and subsequently shaped into a wedge up to the HQ10 level, using gravel placed in front of the retaining wall/base layer. This will serve as a supporting structure. It provides protection against water scour caused by high flow velocities during flood events.
The construction site – an existing landfill site that has been in place for ten years, which includes a small shipyard and the office of a campsite facility – is located within the flood protection zone of the Moselle River. The lower part of the site, in particular, is frequently flooded throughout the year.
The reinforced structure using TILTEX is designed to withstand high water levels in the river and should, of course, also be aesthetically pleasing, as the area is used for recreational purposes.
Reinforced earth structure:
- preparation, excavation and forming of the construction site
- stabilization of the base layers for the retaining wall is very important due to wet and soft ground of the heterogeneous alluvial deposits
- stabilization of the newly formed slope with a very robust nonwoven separation and filtration layer
- construction of the retaining wall with geogrid and layer by layer filling, front: woven for erosion control (coir), steel mesh as lost form work (not part of static calculation), last but not least: hydroseeding
- base layer: gravel with drainage pipe
- altitude of the wall and the paved area behind: higher than altitude HǪ 100
- In front of the retaining wall: construction of an abutment using TILTEX 9 and gravel later piled up in a wedge shape up to altitude HǪ 10.
