Anti-rooting layer

TILTEX 10 Plus 1,5 mm was utilized as an anti-rooting layer Elbe side canal. An extensive reed growth set in the area of the dam sections along the Elbe side channel. The sections,
sealed with asphalt were penetrated by reed roots and permanently damaged. The area between the Uelzen lock and directly at the canal bridge of the Kreisstraße 62 between Wieren and Nettelkamp was chosen as the test area.

The concept envisaged removing the revetment, as well as removing the reed vegetation, the asphalt surface cleaning and laying the TILTEX 10 Plus 1,5 mm as an anti-root layer before installing the revetment stones again. The laying of TILTEX 10 Plus 1,5 mm was also possible by "muscle power" without a laying traverse.

Rolls with width up to 5,0 m were laid without longitudinal overlaps, which was simple and fast. Underwater installation and positioning were made by working vessel and loop connection. After that revetment stones were installed and secured.

TILTEX 10 Plus 1,5 mm is a fully needle-punched, multilayer geotextile consisting of a sand-cement mixture bound between two layers of geotextiles. In this application, the TILTEX 10 Plus 1,5 mm was not activated after installation above the waterline in order to achieve optimum bonding of the revetment stones. Even in the non-activated state of the "concrete layer", TILTEX 10 Plus 1,5 is mechanically sufficiently robust to prevent damage to the plastic geomembrane, when applying the revetment stones.
